The Junior League of Halifax transitions fundraiser to YWCA of Halifax

For more than 30 years, the Junior League of Halifax’s signature fundraiser Homes For the Holidays has kicked off the holidays, inviting patrons to tour three distinctive homes decorated in the best of the season. This year, ownership of the event is being transitioned to the YWCA of Halifax who will run the event and will benefit from funds raised.  “We had a great run with Homes for the Holidays, and with shifting demographics in our League and a desire to explore a new fundraiser, we felt the time was right to let it go. We know the community loves the event and believing that it will continue successfully, we are delighted to hand it over to the YWCA of Halifax, an organization that is also committed to improving the lives of women and children in Halifax,” says Kate Murphy, Junior League of Halifax President.

Miia Suokonautio is the Executive Director of the YWCA and is very pleased to have the opportunity to deliver this event.  “We’re so excited to have been gifted this fundraiser. The two organizations have many similarities. This is a wonderful example of one women’s group helping another. The YWCA is honoured to reinvest the event proceeds into providing integrated services as well as continuing to be a strong voice on the issues affecting women and girls.”

The YWCA has been busy creating a house tour that is sure to sparkle and plans are well underway for a magical event.  Three homes and design teams have been secured and this year they are 589 Tower Road: Fine Interiors & Bellissimo, 8 Alderwood Drive: Rebekah Higgs of DIY MOM and 6229 Oakland Road: DWD Interiors.

The event takes place on November 23, 24, and 25, 2018.  Tickets are available now online and at a variety of retail locations: https://ywcahalifax.com/homes-for-the-holidays/.

Each year Homes For The Holidays – A Holiday Home Tour, brings together local designers, community volunteers, and retailers to decorate three beautiful homes graciously loaned by local homeowners for this annual fundraiser.

The decorated homes are opened to the public with the purchase of a ticket, giving tour participants some holiday inspiration for their own homes. Not only does this event spark the magic of the holidays it carries that spirit throughout the year as all funds raised go towards the programs and services supported by the YWCA Halifax.
