What is the Junior League of Halifax doing in our Community?
The JLH has begun providing volunteer resources in the community to support the development and sustainability of Self-Esteem & Empowerment in Halifax.
School Supply Drive, August 13th 2016
We are collecting school supplies at the Staples in Bayer’s Lake, in support of Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank, for distribution to families in need.
WHEN: Saturday, August 13 from 9am-3pm (or later)
WHERE: Staples, 215 Chain Lake Drive, Halifax – in the Bayer’s Lake Industrial Park
WHO: Junior League members (friends and families are welcome!)
International Women’s Day, March 8th 2016
The Junior League of Halifax will participate in International Women’s Day along with 3 other Leagues across Canada through the coordination of the Canadian Federation of Junior Leagues. This year Halifax members will collect donation for Adsum House for Women and Children. Adsum is a non-profit, community based organization that provides services to women, children and youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. It works to improve the quality of life for individuals and families who are marginalized in the community. http://www.adsumforwomen.org/
Girls Gone Gazelle is a not-for-profit, all-girls running club. Each run club follows a learn-to-run program created by Coach Stacy that is designed for children and promotes confidence, body acceptance and socialization. Girls Gone Gazelle Run Club gives girls an opportunity to participate in a non-competitive running group that creates an enjoyment of physical activity.
Kids In The Kitchen
Children’s health and wellness has been a key issue for Junior Leagues since the organization’s founding in 1901. Today, a critical element of all League’s ongoing commitment is teaching kids and their parents about the importance of eating healthy foods and involving them in the fight against childhood obesity.
In Halifax, this March, the JLH provided Kids In The Kitchen workshops to the Spryfield Boys & Girls Club and 2 Brownie Troops. Kids learned about and prepared healthy home-made snacks.
